I mean: a story about a girl who is shy and has trouble making friends? Yeah, cool, you can watch Kimi no Todoke or something. Still, the outlandish (one word: Fuuko) and emotionally manipulative plot elements (most of the backstories that were explored) weakened what might otherwise have been a sweet, unpretentious slice-of-life drama/romance. With, given that it was based on the original VN plot. STORY: To be fair, the anime didn't have much to work ![]() Is this too harsh? Let's look at the individual components that MAL expects us to rate anime by. It expects us to have genuine emotional reactions to the 'blossoming relationships' between our bland protagonist and these excuses for characters. It expects us to care about these infantile, one-dimensional characters. This show expects us to believe that teenage girls act like five-year-olds. Unfortunately for this show, this means that it ends up being utterly contrived, unrealistic, and outright stupid. Here's the central problem with Clannad: it wants to tug your heartstrings, so it doesn't think about anything else. As he attempts to help each girl overcome her respective obstacle, he begins to realize life isn't as dull as he once thought. Claiming he has nothing better to do, he decides to help her achieve this goal along with the help of four other girls.Īs Tomoya spends more time with the girls, he learns more about them and their problems. Tomoya learns Nagisa has been held back a year due to a severe illness and that her dream is to revive the school's drama club. Eventually he concedes and befriends her. However, Tomoya finds he is noticing Nagisa more and more around school. Nagisa claims they are now friends, but Tomoya walks away passing the encounter off as nothing. He soon discovers the girl's name is Nagisa Furukawa and that she exclaims things she likes in order to motivate herself. Without warning she exclaims "Anpan!" (a popular Japanese food) which catches Tomoya's attention. One day while walking to school, Tomoya passes a young girl muttering quietly to herself. Along with his friend Youhei Sunohara, he skips school and plans to waste his high school days away. ![]() Watch the anime series.Tomoya Okazaki is a delinquent who finds life dull and believes he'll never amount to anything. Kyoto Animation (which produced the TV series) once again impresses me with the animation quality compared with Toei.Īnother fatal mistake was changing the "Dango Big Family" song, which was a masterpiece to anyone who has seen the TV series.įor those who has seen the TV series, I'm sure this movie would feel lacking in comparison, and those who hasn't probably can't keep up with the accelerated story development. Lighting seemed too bright as well, though I guess they were trying to illustrate the dreaminess of the story. The animation wasn't as impressive as the TV series, and I thought there were way too many still-pictures, which seemed like laziness. The end result was a rushed plot development, and the movie ended without the audience being able to connect with any of the characters. There was a significant change in character setting and scenarios, which was great, but this story is way too long to be compressed into a 100-minute movie. The animated series is one of my favorite series of all time, but I found the movie to be very weak. Reviewed by ethSin 5 / 10 Another poorly made Gekijou-ban anime I guarantee you will find the second part much much better If you have seen the series and are somehow attached to the characters. even if you might find the first part less boring if you haven't. I personally enjoyed it, and recommend it to everyone who have seen clannad. don't expect it to be so light hearted.Just be prepared. I actually found this second part really really good!! If you have seen the series you will probably enjoy it a lot. ![]() well I don't want to spoil it any more than I already did. They all get jobs, nagisa gets pregnant and. basically Nagisa and Tomoya rent an apartment and move together. SPOILER- This second part is basically an after story of what happens when they graduate. well I cant really tell you much without a bit of spoilers. This is what I found as the major flaw of the movie. Also, most of the series characters play a very minor part and most of the don't even appear. They show what I found as a darker side of Tomoya, or at least a less caring one. This first part is an alternative retelling of how nagisa and Tomoya meet and how they re-open the theater club. The first half was rather boring (if you have seen the series) maybe if you haven't you might enjoy it. ![]() Reviewed by orozcosamuel1 8 / 10 despite what most people say, I found it really goodĭespite what most people say, I found the clannad movie really good.
